A young couple allegedly committed suicide by jumping before a moving train near the railway gate on Savalgi Road on the outskirts of the city Tuesday morning.
Yellalinga Honnappa Natikar, 31, an auto driver and resident of Siddhartha Nagar, and his ladylove Bharati Hosamani, 18, a student of the Government PU College and resident of Sharana Sirasagi Maddi, are the dead.
Sources said Yellalinga, who used to drop Bharati to her residence, was in love with her for the past two years.
They were upset when their parents opposed their marriage plans as Yellalinga belonged to the backward Kabbaliga caste and Bharati belonged to a Scheduled Caste. A case has been registered at the Wadi Police Station and investigation is on.
