<p>Three persons, including two women, have been arrested for involvement in a maid service racket and cheating over 50 people to the tune of Rs 7 lakh in the national capital, police said on Tuesday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Vasudev, 21, his wife Beena, 23, and Moni, 21, who hail from Assam, were arrested over a complaint by a resident of Ashok Vihar, said Ashok Chand, deputy commissioner of police (crime and railways).<br /><br />The complainant had said that a maid service agency by the name of ‘Bulbuli Maid Service’, which has its office at Sunder Vihar, had cheated him on the pretext of providing a maid. <br /><br />“The agency had taken a commission of Rs 18,000 and the salary of the maid was fixed at Rs 2,500. But the maid only worked with them for a day and then vanished on the pretext of getting milk,” Chand added.<br /><br />The address given by the agency was also found to be fake and there was no response on the phone numbers provided to the complainant.<br /><br />A trap was then laid and Vasudev, Beena and Moni were apprehended from Rithala Metro station.<br /><br />The trio were subjected to intensive interrogation after which it was revealed that Vasudev was the kingpin of the racket.<br /><br />“They have been involved in the racket for the past one year. Their modus operandi was that initially they distributed pamphlets in the residential areas saying they were a maid placement agency.<br /><br />“However, the address of their office printed on the pamphlets would be fake and the mobile phone numbers would be taken on fake identities,” Chand said. <br /><br />They used to take Rs 10,000 to 25,000 from prospective employers as commission for providing a maid.<br /><br />In order to convince the employer, Beena and Moni were shown as the maids. “After taking the commission amount either Beena or Moni used to join as a maid in the household, but she would vanish next morning on some pretext or other,” Chand added.<br />DH News Service<br /></p>
