With the state high court issuing a stay order for the hydel power project, the Maruti Power Gen India Ltd Co has stopped all the ongoing works of Yadakumeri and Hongadahalli minor hydel project at Kaginahare and Kenchanakumari reserve forest and Hongadahalli from Tuesday.

The company has been destroying the natural resources of the Western ghats in the name of hydel project and it is alleged that the company had sought permission from the government for implementation of 18.9 and 19 mega watt capacity project but has set up a unit with 37.9 mega watt capacity flouting the rules.

The government had given permission under the condition that the project has to be set up at 4.20 hectare and 4.18 hectare in the Kaginahare and Kenchanakumari reserve forest. But violating all the government agreed condition the company had encroached an additional 10 hectares of land destroying the invaluable natural resources causing irreparable damage to the environment. The excavating machines that have been used for the project has affected the soil and the rivers have been contaminated by throwing debris and wood. A huge mountain has been drilled to construct a tunnel without taking necessary permission from the authorities concerned.

Sadiq Pasha of Raitha Sangha had filed a public interest litigation demanding penalty for the company which has violated the government guidelines and destroyed the nature.
