68-yr-old gets PhD in Sanskrit

The University of Madras has conferred doctorate in Sanskrit on V R Anil Kumar of Mysore.

Aged 68, he was bestowed with the honour for his thesis on ‘Comparative study of vivaha samskara in grihya sutras of the four vedas’. He researched under the guidance of S Revathy of the department of Sanskrit, University of Madras, said a release.

An electrical engineering graduate from NIE in 1964, he took up Sanskrit studies after 40 years in industry. He owned and managed a small scale industry in the field of air pollution control in Chennai. He completed MA in Sanskrit in 2005 in first class from the University of Madras.

A resident of fourth stage, first phase in Vijayanagar in Mysore, Anil Kumar has set up Kalpa Heritage Trust with the sole objective of collecting materials on hindu rituals, digitising and posting them on the website he founded- www.kalpaheritage.com.
