Long association indeed

Bollywood’s glam diva Asin is currently busy with the promotions of her upcoming comic caper ‘Housefull 2’, directed by Sajid Khan and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala.

The latest buzz doing the rounds is about the pretty actress’ long association with director Sajid Khan right from the ‘Housefull’ days. Not many know this, but the actress was approached for ‘Housefull’ but could not accommodate the movie due to date issues.

Later, director Sajid Khan wanted her to do the hit dance number Dhanno from the same movie but that too didn’t work out and Jacqueline Fernandez was roped in for the same.

Much later, when the team decided to make a sequel to the super hit, Asin was roped in for the same and this time around, they found the perfect opportunity to work together.

All we can say is that we are glad things worked out so well for the team and  looking forward to Asin’s rib-tickling performance in the movie.

Apart from ‘Housefull 2’, Asin will also be seen in Rohit Shetty’s Bol Bachchan with Abhishek Bachchan, Ajay Devgan and Prachi Desai.

Gulping down energy drinks

Slumdog Millionaire’ star Dev Patel was so concerned about his energy levels dipping while on the sets of ‘Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ in India that he consumed 12 energy drinks a day. The 21-year-old Indian origin British actor stars alongside legends like Judi Dench, Tom Wilkinson and Bill Nighy in the film which is about a group of retirees who head to a recently done-up hotel in India.

He said that he struggled to keep up with the pace while filming in the heat in Rajasthan. “My energy had to be off the scale always, which is hard in that heat. I often got put to shame by the others in the movie. I was drinking 12 energy drinks a day just to keep it up, take after take. John, the director, just wanted more and more. I wish I had a tranquiliser on some scenes now,” Patel said.

However, his biggest worry was that his co-stars would think he was a ‘crap actor’. “The week before I got cast was the most terrifying experience of my life because I just thought they were going to see right through me. These guys have done so much work, their resumes are just solid. I thought they would see right through me and they would just know I’m crap. And I got to the sets and I couldn’t have been more wrong,” he added.

‘Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ will be released in the UK on February 24.

‘PR didn’t work for me’

One of the most versatile actors in Bollywood, Irrfan Khan, who is part of upcoming American film ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’, says his work and not any PR, has helped him in getting international projects. “It just happened. I still don’t have a PR. International films didn’t come to me because of PRs. They came to me because of my work. They came to me because I was destined to work there,” said Irrfan. The 49-year-old became a known name in the international film circuit with his first ever full-fledged movie role in Asif Kapadia’s ‘The Warrior’.

The 2001 film was shown at the international film festivals and Irrfan carved a niche for himself. In 2003, he again impressed the global audience with writer-director Asvin Kumar’s short film ‘Road to Ladakh’ and earned rave reviews for his performance in the 2003 release. “My limitation is that I don’t know how to do my PR myself. As an actor, you must know how to do your PR, which I consider as my limitation. When I tried to work on it, it didn’t work for me,” said the actor who also featured in international projects ‘A Mighty Heart’, ‘The Darjeeling Limited’ and ‘In Treatment’. Then came the Oscar-winning film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, in which he played a police officer.

Post the humongous success of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, Irrfan bagged director Marc Webb’s superhero film ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’, based on the comic book of the same name. “It was wonderful working with Marc Webb in the film. He is a fabulous director. Adapting a costume was not difficult but the way he approached me, the respect he showered on me is very rarely seen,” said Irrfan, who will be seen as Dr Ratha in the movie. Irrfan said he doesn’t have to rely on the box office to bag films.

His performance justifies the character, which helps him  get films. “Had I only relied on box office, then as an actor, I wouldn’t have got enough films. There are a few films which recover their money in certain span of time while some keep running for a longer period. Among all my films, a few have bombed at the box office while some have worked as well,” said Irrfan, who is known for his work in Maqbool and ‘Life... In A Metro’. Currently, Irrfan is busy promoting Paan Singh Tomar, which is about an athlete who becomes a dacoit. Directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia, the film, which was stuck for quite some time, will finally hit the screens on March 2.

Boman’s son to debut

Bollywood actor Boman Irani’s son Kayoze will be introduced in film-maker Karan Johar’s next offering ‘Student of the Year’ (‘SOTY’).

Kayoze started off as an assistant director for the recently released Kareena Kapoor-Imran Khan starrer Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu.

Now, the budding director has been signed for Johar’s film but his role has not been disclosed yet.

“Ok... thats Kayoze Irani!!! @kayoze... Boman Irani’s super talented son who we are introducing in ‘SOTY’ (sic),” Johar wrote on Twitter and posted a picture of the newbie on the micro blogging site. The film also marks the debut of Alia Bhatt, daughter of film-maker Mahesh Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, son of director David Dhawan and newcomer Siddharth Malhotra. Both Siddharth and Varun have previously worked as assistant directors under Johar during the making of his 2010 film ‘My Name Is Khan’. As the shooting for the film is underway, Johar is looking forward to a song choreographed by Farah Khan.

“Am off for another outdoor of SOTY... am filming my favourite song in the album with Farah!!! On flight with the newbies... will connect soon,” he said. There is a buzz that the song with the three debutantes Varun, Alia and Siddharth would be a high school party gig, ala Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukherjee’s – Koi Mil Gaya Mera Dil Gaya from Johar’s directorial debut movie, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. ‘SOTY’ is said to be a romantic comedy and is being produced by Shah Rukh's Red Chillies Entertainment and Johar's Dharma Productions.
