JOIN USActing on public complaints, the Lokayukta police conducted surprise checks on five sub-registrar offices in the city on Friday.
Five teams led by Lokayukta SP Shivshankar P K searched the offices in KR Puram, Jayanagara, JP Nagar, Devanahalli and Kengeri. Checks in KR Puram office yielded an excess cash of Rs 79,000. Five touts were also present at the office.
At Kengeri office, excess cash of Rs 89,020 was recovered and nine touts were detected. The sub-registrars at two of these offices Shanthamurthy and N A Ramesh and touts will be booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Except Devanahalli office where no irregularities were discovered, the offices of Jayanagara and J P Nagar yielded minor irregularities. According to the Lokayukta police, these instances will be reported to the Inspector General of Registrar to initiate a departmental inquiry.
