BBA a popular stream to become trained entrepreneurs

Are you also keen to be an independent entrepreneur, take your own professional decisions rather than working under bosses in private or government organisations? Most niche students in Ban galore say yes to this question, which is what is driving them to undertake degree in Bach elors in Business Administration, coupled with specialised or even vocational courses.

Though the BBA degree course is considered to be a little expensive when compared to other commerce degree programmes, it is gaining importance gradually. It is giving students the opportunity to start their own business at an early age, breaking the myth.

Assistant vice chancellor of Christ University Fr Abraham VM, said that students are getting attracted to this course because they get an opportunity to go abroad. Colleges, like ours gives students the option to study one year in Bangalore and the remaining two years in one of the universities in United Kingdom.

Many students are also undertaking specialisation courses in other streams along with their degree programme to gain more knowledge and exposure like fashion designing, jewellery designing and various computer courses.

This is because they want to become independent at the earliest. Some are even opting for travel and tourism for extra qualification. This is despite the fact that colleges are offering degree in travel and tourism.

Interestingly most students who are taking up this course are children of businessmen or entrepreneurs. They are keen to take up the course because they want to work independently, or have the money and are not very good in their academics, pointed Principal of St Joseph’s College Rev Dr Daniel Fernandes, SJ.

Analysis of courses shows that Bachelor in Business Management and Administration is similar in syllabus. Furthermore like BBM, a masters in business administration is an added advantage, here too. Thus those who are opting for the course have coupled it with vocational training. Students who are realising the career prospects in particular streams are only coming forward for this course. However on the who le commerce stream is becoming popular compared to science streams, he added. Mou nt Carmel College, principal Susaparna said that many students are opting for commerce and fashion designing courses. Our college is offering cou rses in general fashion desig ning and BBA as well. Another stream which is picking up is travel and tourism. Thou gh not many are aware of it, students are inclined towards it.

Career counselor and director of Manasa Consultants, Annapurna Murthy said that students who have short and long term goals are taking up this stream.

Many also take up this course as they believe that they will be able to get admissions easily in reputed MBA institutions like IIMs. Also there are cases where students, plan to start their own company. But drop the idea when companies approach them during college placement. This is one reality of the coin.
