The Vice-Chancellor was addressing students after inaugurating the classes for the academic year 2009-’10.

“Engineers have a huge role to play in improving the quality of people’s lives. Whether it is in the construction of houses and bridges, or in writing new computer programmes; whether it is in the electrical, civil, mechanical or chemical  fields; engineers can help make life better. That is why you have to understand the social importance of this profession,” he advised the students.

“Along with learning, inculcate an interest in reading. Don’t read only what is related to your syllabus; read what will shape your personality, and sharpen your sensitivity.
“It is also very important to learn about the usage of the computer and the internet,” he said.

Former ASITI president Dr S Ramegowda, President of the Byregowda Educational and Cultural Trust K Srinivasagowda, Secretary Krishna Reddy, Treasurer Dr Prabhakar Reddy and Principal K G Mohan were also present.
