Doctors protest attack by patient's family

Doctors, nurses and other employees of the Hassan Government Hospital here staged a protest demonstration on Friday against the assault on hospital staff by relatives of a patient on Thursday night.

The doctors said: “One Yashoda of Rangolihalla was brought to the hospital on Thursday night with severe burn injuries. 

Her husband Prashant returned immediately on the pretext of fetching his family members. By the time he came to the hospital, doctors had begun treatment. However, they told Prashant that chances of Yashoda recovering was bleak as she had sustained 90 per cent burn injuries.”

“However, Prashant misbehaved with doctors and alleged that they were not giving proper treatment. 

Meanwhile, his brother Chetan and four others assaulted staff nurse Suyay. They also abused women doctors and tried to overpower other doctors,” the doctors alleged.

DySP Martin and his personnel rushed to the hospital and took Prashant, Chetan and others into custody.

The hospital staff complained that this was not an isolated incident. 

They said there was no security for hospital employees as they have to face the wrath of deceased patients’ families frequently.

Yashoda was shifted to Bangalore for further treatment.
