Tension triggered by a communal clash during a Holi procession in the town on Friday spilled over to the second day.

The police, who have camped in the town, managed to maintain peace, but the situation has remained grim.

Security has been stepped up at a place of worship near Mahatma Gandhi Circle and a Karnataka Reserve Police battalion has been deployed.

The police patrolled nook and corner of the town and under their vigil, the schools, offices and commercial establishments functioned without any hassles.

Prohibitory orders clamped under Section 144 CrPC will be in force till 6 am on Sunday.

People are prohibited from assembling groups, carrying weapons and holding any religious events till the ban order is withdrawn.
