Jharkhand Vikas Morcha party (Prajatantrik) on Monday announced its general secretary Praveen Singh as a candidate for Rajya Sabha elections from Jharkhand.

The  JVM(P) has 11 members in the 82-member Assembly. Out of the six Rajya Sabha seats in Jharkhand, two will fall vacant on April 2.

The poll notification will be issued on March 12 and election will be held on March 30.

The Congress, meanwhile, urged pre-poll ally JVM(P) to reconsider its decision to field a candidate for the Rajya Sabha election. "We are pre-poll allies, and secular forces should unite to stop NDA from winning both the seats from the state. Moreover, Congress has 13 MLAs while JVM has 11 MLAs," PCC spokesman Sailesh Sinha said here.

He added, “Moreover, it is the Congress' Rajya Sabha member Mabel Rebello, whose term comes to an end on April 2, necessitating the polls. Therefore, JVM(P) should leave the seat to us."
