Police to show sporting spirit

Minister of State for Home Affairs Jitender Singh while inaugurating the 60th All India Police Athletics Championship-2012 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Monday said, ''Sports keep country's police force emotionally, mentally and physically fit.''

The championship organised under the guidance of Delhi Police witnessed 29 teams including 23 from state police and six from Central Armed Police Force.

“ Sports uplift morale of our country's force. I am thankful for being part of this event,” added Singh.
“Such events provide an opportunity to police personnel to showcase their talent, strength and skill in respective discipline,” said B K Gupta, Delhi police commissioner.

This event was first organised at Cuttack in Orissa in 1951.

This is the third time Delhi police is organising this event. Previously, it hosted the event in 1960 and 1978.

To mark the occasion, the Jitender Singh also released the souvenir of the 60th All India Police Athletics Championship-2011. He also presented gold, silver and bronze medals to Jagrup Singh (BSF), Navpreet (Punjab police) and Mukesh Singh (CRPF) respectively in shot put men’s category.Mukesh Rawat of Uttrakhand police was presented gold medal in 10,000 meter men’s category race.
