Fishing tools distributed

The fisheries department distributed fish catching equipment to beneficiaries recently.

At a programme held at the Fort Hall,  Zilla Panchayat vice-president H M Cauvery distributed the equipment worth Rs 5,000 to each fisherman.

The financial aid has been extended to 17 fishermen belonging to general category, five from Scheduled Caste and two from Scheduled Tribe.

Assistant director for fisheries Darshan said Rs 5,000 each has been distributed to 18 farmers under phase I under Suvarna Bhoomi Scheme, while 12 more farmers were eligible for the benefit under phase II. The financial aid will be directly credited to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries, she said.

Monetary help

The government is extending monetary support of Rs one lakh to candidates who have passed UPSC exam and have been selected for the Indian Administrative Services and other Central services during the year 2010-11.

The aid will be given to only those who have studied from I std to X standard in government or government-aided educational institutions in Karnataka.
