Contractor, 11 workers arrested for Gurgaon factory violence

A labour contractor and 10 workers of an export house were arrested on Tuesday in connection with Monday’s violence by employees, police said.

A court has sent them to judicial custody.

On the complaint of the production manager of Orient Craft, Jagdish Bains, an FIR at Khekri Daula police station was lodged against its workers on the charges of attempted murder, preventing government officials from performing their duty and destroying public property.

The second FIR was filed on the complaint of worker Rajesh Kumar against contractor Harender Singh alias Lovely.

The contractor had a dispute with the workers, after which he had allegedly attacked three of them with a pair of scissors. The contractor was also arrested and sent to judicial custody.

On Monday, workers of Orient Craft, had pelted stones at the company premises, shouted slogans against the management and accused the contractor of assaulting them.

They had also set ablaze 35 vehicles, including a police vehicle and a fire brigade truck. Later a clash between the workers and police had injured two policemen and 15 workers.
