Wild elephant attack has destroyed large area of jowar cultivated field belonging to M A Jabbar, at Chikkabettageri near Guddehosur and Kushalnagar.

Chikkabettageri is close to Anekadu Reserve Forest area, so the villagers here have to live under constant fear of wild elephants.

Jabbar had taken six acres land on lease from a villager named Lakshmamma and cultivated jowar in it.

However, a herd of 12 elephants including two calves had reportedly crossed river Cauvery from Ranigate forest region and barged into Jabbar’s jowar field.

Jabbar said that the crops had grown well and he was anticipating good returns but now, the loss has wiped out his hopes of even reaping back Rs 75,000 that he had invested into the field. “If not for the incident I would have got Rs two lakh or so for the yield,” he said demanding a compensation for the loss from the forest department officials.
