Fresh food on trains soon

The technology called “phase change material” has been put on trail on some Rajdhani trains to test its efficacy, said managing director of IRCTC Rakesh Tandon. “The technology will ensure that the desired temperature is maintained for long and the nutrition value remains intact,” he said.

Passengers will literally enjoy freshly cooked food, he said. In course of time, the technology will be introduced on all the premier trains. The move of IRCTC, a railway PSU, comes amid increasing accusation against the Railways of doing little to improve the quality of food served on trains. The IRCTC is planning to award incentives to contractors based on passengers’ feedback besides taking several other steps.

“We will conduct quarterly customer satisfaction survey in all trains, including Shatabdis and Rajdhanis, and link it to an incentive scheme whereby contractors serving good food will be awarded,” he said.
