Upbeat Congress set to launch new programme

Last Updated 31 March 2012, 18:18 IST

The mood in the Congress party in the State is upbeat following the results of the Chikmagalur-Udupi Lok Sabha byelection.

As the unity mantra has paid rich dividends, the party is all set to launch a programme called - ‘Congress ge banni, Badalavane thanni’, (Join Congress and bring changes), on April 8.

KPCC President G Parameshwara, while interacting with the media on Saturday, said a mega rally would be held on April 8 at Gollarahattii near the Nice Road junction along Magadi Road wherein Union Minsters S M Krishna, Mallikarjuna Kharge, and M Veerappa Moily would participate along with All India Congress Committee general secretary in charge of Karnataka, Madhusudan Mistry.

He said the next day, Congress leaders would begin touring the 224 Assembly constituencies in the State to ‘recharge’ booth level workers. The tour programme would go on for at least five months and candidates for the Assembly polls would also be identified.

When asked whether the Congress favours coalition governance, he said there is no such thinking as the party is confident of gaining majority in the next Assembly elections.

Parameshwara said this constituency tour is an extension of recently completed programme - “Congress nadige, Janara balige”, success of which was seen in Udupi-Chikkamagalur bypoll.

Felicitated

New Member of Parliament from Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency K Jayaprakash Hegde was felicitated at the party office.

Hegde said that the party won because of unity among the leaders and workers.
He also dismissed allegations that his victory was due to the help of BJP leader B S Yeddyurappa.

He said the victory margin would have been still larger had Yeddyurappa campaigned for the BJP candidate.

Parameshwara felicitated Hegde by presenting him with a Mysore peta. The bypoll victory has given the party a new energy and the workers are gearing up for good results in Assembly polls, the president said.

Candidates announced

The KPCC has announced its candidates for the upcoming elections for Graduates and Teachers Constituencies.

The candidates are S P Dinesh - South-West Graduates Constituency, Ramojam - Bangalore Graduates Constituency, Dr Shivanand Bhimalli - North-East Graduates Constituency, K B Ramalingappa - South-East Teachers Constituency and Hosur Ramesh Joyappa - South-West Teachers Constituency.
