Two youths have been arrested for killing their relative at Kotla Mubarakpur in south-east Delhi, police said on Saturday.

Kushal Pal, 24, and Dinesh, 25, who hail from Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh district, strangled Babu Singh, 30, on Friday evening after he objected to Kushal‘s illicit relationship with his wife.

The death came to light when police recovered Babu’s body from a taxi hired by the them during a routine check at New Friends Colony in the wee hours of Saturday.

“The car was stopped for routine checking. But on general questioning, the staff became suspicious and thoroughly checked the car. They were startled to see a body wrapped in a bed sheet lying on the rear seat,” said Ajay Chaudhary, additional commissioner of police (south-east).

A case under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) was registered at New Friends Colony police station and investigation taken up.

During interrogation, Kushal and Dinesh told police that Babu was their relative.

Kushal also revealed he had developed an illicit relationship with Babu’s wife.

“Babu, however, became suspicious and objected to the relationship. Therefore, Kushal hatched a conspiracy with his cousin Dinesh to eliminate him,” Chaudhry added.

They called Babu on Friday evening at Pilinji and consumed liquor at Kushal’s house.

When Babu got drunk, they strangled him with a handkerchief.

“They later wrapped the body in a bed sheet and called a taxi so they could dump it at a secluded place. However, they were caught before they could travel too far from their home,” Chaudhry said.
