Basava Vasathi Yojana may fail in district: MP

Last Updated 10 April 2012, 17:17 IST

Concern has been raised over the strong possibility of Basava Vasathi Yojane falling flat in Dakshina Kannada district.

Inaugurating various developmental work undertaken in Sullia taluk, on Tuesday, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that though Basava Vasathi Yojane is an excellent project there are no takers for it in the district.

“The ones who have been selected for the project are not implementing it efficiently. Lack of information is dooming a good project,” he said adding that though the State has chalked out various schemes for urban development, the main reason for these projects suffering a setback is that beneficiaries are not identified properly for these projects. At many places the action plans have not been prepared properly.

“There is a need for both ruling and the opposition parties to join hands and work for the betterment of the society. In Sullia, there is excellent co-ordination between the ruling and the opposition. It is due to this reason that 16 projects have been successfully implemented in the region. There is no politics in development here,” he said.

Vented dam

MLA S Angara presided over the programme. He said that a vented dam will be constructed at Medinadka to supply drinking water to the town. Further, attempts will be made to release Rs 20 lakh from MLA’s fund and Rs 7.5 crore from CM’s Urban Development funds to lay interlocks at all major roads in the town.

Meanwhile, Panchayat President Sumathi Narayan distributed 400 water tanks to beneficiaries. LPG connections were provided to SC/ST families.
CFL bulbs were distributed to the beneficiaries.

Praise for BSY

Town Panchayat former opposition leader M Venkappa Gowda addressing the gathering said that most of the roads in Sullia taluk have been made concrete roads and the credit for the same goes only to former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa.

“It was due to the Rs five crore special grant released by Yeddyurappa that this work could materialise,” Gowda said adding that the taluk receives adequate funds without any disparity.
