VVIETians pledge eyes

Mysore Eye Bank and Research Centre executive director B S Madura delivered a talk on ‘making a Pledge to donate eyes,’ at Vidya Vikas Institute of Engineering and Technology (VVIET), here on Monday.

The talk was part of the programme organised by Vidya Vikas Educational Trust for the principals, heads of the departments and student leaders of all the institutions run by the Trust.

In the course of her talk, Madura gave an overview of the what is meant of eye donation and the various factors that concern making a pledge.

She spoke of the large number of blind in the country who can be given the gift of sight if only more people come forward to make a pledge that their eyes be donated after death, according to a press release.

Madura introduce Savitha who works with the Mysore Eye Bank  who was blind in both eyes and whose sight was restored following corneal transplant from anonymous donors.  

National Association for the Blind, Bangalore CEO M Srinivas, who also spoke referred to the work done by NAB  and appreciated the efforts of the Mysore Eye Bank.  He also appreciated that VVET Chairman, Vasu, who is also the Chairman of NAB , Karnataka Chapter, had taken the step to motivate  VVET group of institutions to be a part of the eye donation pledge programme to be held shortly.

VVIET principal B  Chandrashekar, who welcomed the guests gave a call to make the ‘gift of sight’ to those less fortunate by taking a pledge to donate eyes.

Programme coordinator, NAB  Goplakrishna and R Muniraju, NAB, VVET secretary, Kaveesh V Gowda, CAO Sundareshan, VVIET  vice principal  Sheshaprakash,  ITI  principal Yermal,   First Grade College principal Mohan Monteriro , senior faculty, Sanjay Pande, Bindu Thomas, Ningappa, Surekha Manoj and HR and placement officer Vidhya Munuswamy were present.
