The first ever ‘Lifestyle Pakistan’ exhibition held in Delhi with over 100 top brands and designers from Pakistan was a major hit with Indian fashion lovers.

The expo showcased collections in textile, jewellery, designer furniture and leather goods.

It brought together about 100 exhibitors from the neighbouring country, was organised at Pragati Maidan and attracted big crowds on all three days, in part because it was a holiday weekend.

An initiative aimed at building on the efforts of the governments of Pakistan and India to normalise trade relations between the two nations, Lifestyle Pakistan brought in top quality export products from the Islamic nation under one roof.

With a trade potential that promises substantial forex benefits for both the countries, the event offers a unique opportunity for Indian trade community to interact with its Pakistani counterpart. It is a firsthand opportunity for customers to understand and buy the best products that Pakistan has to offer.

Zain Aziz, Business Development Manager of Sefam, one of the many brands participating in the expo, stated “We have brought in our premium range. We are the most expensive brand in Pakistan and have 24 outlets only in Lahore, and have over 80-100 inhouse designers back home.”

But will this effort improve the tumultuous ‘relationship’ shared by Pakistan and India? “We are like jilted lovers. But this exhibition will help in bonding the two nations. Politicians could not get it right but, this will surely help.”

The stall boasted traditional outfits for men and women and the range went upto Rs. one lakh.

Designer’s Lounge was so packed that ‘single men’ were not allowed to go inside as there was no room to shop. “We have competitive pricing and we are here to help the shoppers understand and appreciate Pakistani designs. Where politics has failed, cricket has failed, we hope fashion will open barriers between the two nations,” said Asad Sajjad, a business consultant. “The response is way better than we expected.”

Shopping enthusiasts’ were seen buying dress materials worth thousands of rupees and that too without bargaining!

The exhibition hall was dominated mainly by textiles, mostly catering to feminine tastes, and had dress materials ranging from synthetics, to chiffons, georgettes and silks.

Nimmi Seth from Delhi bought a single suit’s fabric worth Rs 15,000 for her daughter.

“The fabric is very nice but it is really expensive. I will be sending this to US where she lives.”

There were other stalls as well, which featured furniture and jewellery. Shafaq Habib from Lahore showcased her jewellery in 22 carat gold set with precious and semi precious stones. “We have traditional designs from Pakistan and Middle East and Egypt too. The sale has been good and most buyers loved the phiroza set in 22 carat gold.”

The collection ranged between Rs 15000 - 400,000.
