Parents beat student to death in Bengal

A class six student was beaten to death by his parents allegedly for stealing and selling off his tutor’s mobile phone. The incident happened nearly 250-km from here at Bhumsor village under Bhatar police station area in Burdwan district where Monirul Haq, a 13-year-old student of Bamsole High School, was beaten to death by his father Sheikh Zia.


Haq went to his private tutor Amirulla on Saturday morning and allegedly stole his mobile phone and sold it off to one of his friends for Rs 100.

Amirulla reported the incident to Haq’s mother Asha Biwi on the next day. Biwi locked him up in the room and didn’t give him food nor water. After her husband came in the evening she informed him about the incident. Hearing this, he statred to beat the boy until he fainted on the ground.

Haq was immediately rushed to the Burdwan Medical College and Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Confirming the incident, officer-in-charge of Bhatar police station, Sanjay Kundu, said, “On Saturday morning, the boy had gone to the tutor’s house for his classes from where he stole the mobile phone. He was beaten up with bamboo sticks till he fell unconscious.”
