Stick to last week fares, govt tells airlines

Last Updated 10 September 2009, 19:41 IST

As the Jet Airways pilots’ strike entered the third day, the airlines have raised their fares several times over, a move seen by the government as a way of “cashing in” on the stir.

In a communication, the DGCA  mentioned that the carriers had started charging fares three to four times more on the metro routes and noted that such increases were unnecessary since the cost of operations remained the same since September 6. Meanwhile, the Madras High Court admitted a petition by the newly formed NAG against engaging foreign pilots by Jet Airways.
