Derogatory post against Sullia MLA Bhagirathi Murulya: Bantwal police register FIR

Mangaluru: A case has been registered at the Bantwal Rural Police Station over alleged defamatory and derogatory content posted against Sullia Assembly constituency MLA Bhagirathi Murulya on social media.

According to the police, the complaint was filed by Sadananda, a resident of Bantwal taluk, who stated that on January 7, he noticed derogatory posts and misleading content uploaded using the MLA’s photograph on a Facebook account named 'Billava Sandesh'. The complainant alleged that the posts amounted to false and defamatory propaganda on the social media platform.

Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case and said that further legal action will be initiated after investigation.

MP, MLA condemn posts

BJP State Secretary and Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta has strongly condemned the derogatory social media posts made against Sullia MLA Bhagirathi Murulya.

In a statement, the MP said, "MLA Bhagirathi Murulya comes from an oppressed community and has been sincerely engaged in public service. Making such low-level posts about a public representative, especially against a woman MLA, is highly condemnable. A civilised society can never accept such expressions and uncultured criticism. Defaming elected representatives in this manner on social media is a very serious matter."

He added, "Such posts that disturb social harmony merely expose intellectual bankruptcy. Instead of using social media constructively, using it to assassinate someone's character is deeply regrettable."

MLA D Vedavyasa Kamath has urged the police to book a case against the miscreants, who posted derogatory comments against Murulya.
