You no longer need to worry about leaving your pet alone when you go to work or on short trips. There are many day care centres for pets in the City that will take care of all their needs.

Of late, a number of these creches have opened up in the City and claim to provide quality facilities for your four-legged furry friends. They offer boarding as well as day care.

In boarding, various facilities are given to them including a separate suite, meals and bath.

Some creches also provide counselling to pet owners on how to choose a pet and take care of it in addition to bereavement counselling.

Such day care centres give an opportunity to the pets to mingle with other animals as well.

The trend also indicates that instead of localites, people who opt for creches are the ones who have come to the City on business purpose or simply to explore. Kim Bawitlung, who hails from Mizoram, started a day care centre for pets a year ago.

“Mostly, business people, who travel a lot, leave their pets at creches. I haven’t seen locals coming and dropping their pets. And if ever they leave their pets here, it is for a short time unlike outsiders, who leave their pets for almost 20 days at times,” says  Kim.

Hema Deepak, the owner of Petspace which is located off Sarjapur Road, says there has been an increase in creches because of the increasing number of pet owners.

“Young couples and bachelors, who stay alone, are proud pet owners and drop them off at day care centres while they are at work,” she says. Hema interestingly points out that a good chunk of wealthy dog owners have started to adopt Indian dogs rather than pedigreed breeds.

“I’m not worried when I drop my pet at a creche. I know that it is taken good care of and will be happy and healthy as a result of socialising with other pets,” says Charlotte Rosline.

Aditi Jha, who often leaves her pet dog at a creche, says, “These creches are helpful when we go out. But there are a few centres which cage pets or tie them which is unhealthy.

My husband and I were apprehensive in the beginning about leaving our pet at a day care centre but then we took the risk and left it at a creche. After coming back from the trip, we were happy to see that our pet was in a good condition and looked healthier than before.”

Another pet owner, Deepa Swain, who hails from New Delhi, says, “I have not seen many day care centres back in Delhi. But here, it has become a money-minting business. But it doesn’t matter as long as there are good creches which take care of your pet. That’s all that we want.”
