Now, know status of passport applications on police portal

Last Updated 03 May 2012, 19:32 IST

Bangaloreans can now get to know the status of their passport applications online, thanks to an initiative of the City Police.

The 15-digit bar code file numbers of the passport applications received for 2012, upto April 26, is published on the website - www.bcp.gov.in (under the section Police Passport Seva Kendra) along with details like date of download and date of online dispatch to the Regional Passport Office (after scrutiny). The status is updated on a day-to-day basis.

The passport section of the City Special Branch, working under the City Police Commissioner, has received 3,24,165 passport applications for police verification since May 2010.

These applications are downloaded at the passport cell and sent to the 102 police stations of the City through intranet.

The documents produced by the applicant before the police officer for verification, should tally with details furnished in the personal particulars form of the applicant at the Passport Seva Kendra like residential proof and date of birth proof. A clear report is then transmitted online to the Regional Passport Office, Bangalore.

If the documents produced by the applicant during police verification do not tally with details in the personal particulars form, an ‘adverse report’ is uploaded. Even a small error will result in the ‘adverse report’ being sent to the Regional Passport Office. The errors could be the door number, street name, block number or name not matching with details in the marks card, voter ID card and marriage certificate.

The errors may also relate to change in date of birth or names of parents not tallying with those mentioned in other supporting documents or applicant not being physically present to be compared with the photograph in the personal particulars form and to sign the Police Verification Form and Police Station Register.

There may also be cases of documents to support residential and age proof not being produced.

Suppressing information on proceedings pending in criminal court, conviction and imprisonment of two years or more and court orders debarring applicant’s departure overseas results in the ‘adverse report’ being sent to the Regional Passport Office.

Steps to follow

* Log on to Bangalore City Police website www.bcp.gov.in, Home Page is displayed, click on the link ‘Click here to know your passport status’. The web page ‘Passport Verification Police Seva Kendra’ appears.
