The Lesson

Last Updated 14 May 2009, 15:12 IST

"Sir, I hate Rahul so much! I wish he would just die!" The school counselor was taken aback when he heard Krishna say this. "What do you mean? How can you wish for him to die? No matter how much you hate a person, good or bad, he or she never deserves to die". He noticed Krishna was not listening.

Hoping to get some response he continued, "God has created all of us for a purpose. We are here on this earth for a short duration. Let us use that time for the best. If that time is cut short, then the purpose in that person's life is gone".

"Then what is my purpose in life?" Krishna asked. The counselor smiled. "Your purpose in life for now is to accept this boy for who he is and learn to overcome your hatred. Spread love, not hate."  Krishna stood up furiously and walked out of the room slamming the door behind him. The next week one of the class teachers came to pick up some papers from the counselor's office. Out of curiosity the counselor enquired, "Ma'am, do Rahul and Krishna fight any more?" The teacher looked at the counselor in a puzzled manner. "Fight? Why, they are best friends!"
