Farewell functions in colleges have always been emotional events filled with tears and joy. Recently, the final-year students of the Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM) department, Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, bid farewell to their institution in a fun-filled but heartwarming manner.

Named ‘IM-Leaving’ with the tag line, ‘A farewell, but not a goodbye’, the farewell function had a host of events for the final-year students along with a fashion show. As the seniors sashayed down the ramp with oodles of confidence, their juniors hooted and cheered them on.

The dress code for the event was mixed – ethnic as well as formals for the seniors and red and black colour code for the rest. The college basketball court, where the function took place, was decorated with photographs of the outgoing students. The students got to have an enjoyable evening party with a tasty dinner. The evening was lively and the IEM students seemed to enjoy it thoroughly. Games such as extempore, ‘Tell Your Secret’, ‘First Crush’ and ‘Pick a Junior and Dance’ were thoroughly enjoyed by the seniors. The function also had a flash mob.

Satish Desphande, a final year student, said, “My engineering days were the best days of my student life. Four years passed in the blink of an eye. The farewell was amazing and was well-organised by the juniors. We took the initiative last year and started throwing farewells for our seniors.

This time, we received a much better one than what we had done. I enjoyed dancing with all my classmates, it was great fun.”

Another student, Anand Bhate, said that the farewell function was the best event so far in the college. “Four years of engineering were reflected in four hours. Videos, photo walls, shayaris for seniors, lovely games, the award ceremony, the flash mob and fashion show were all worth remembering. It was a fabulous evening!” exclaimed Anand.

The main attraction of the farewell remained the second edition of the award ceremony.

It had 15 different categories of awards for the outgoing students. The outgoing students were presented with a souvenir — a collage of pictures of the final-year batch. The basketball court was kept open for everyone. It was a night that the IEM students shall remember all their life.
