Yashwant's wishes for Pranab

Last Updated 07 May 2012, 18:44 IST

Senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha on Monday wished Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee well for the forthcoming Presidential elections. And, in a lighter vein, he said that Mukherjee shouldn’t keep anything against him when he moves to the “big house”.

Initiating the debate on the Finance Bill, an elated Sinha said, “At the outset, I wish to place my views with an apology. If the finance minister moves to the big house on the other side after this session, then he will not keep anything against me for whatever I am going to say today”.

The happiness was writ large on his face as most of the proposals, which did not find favour with opposition parties and stakeholders, were either withdrawn or postponed while Mukherjee moved the bill for consideration in the Lok Sabha.

Sinha opened his debate  lamenting on the government for maintaining secrecy in expenditure budget, and devoted a good time on corruption scandals in the UPA, the much-talked about policy paralysis and the fiscal indiscipline due to which the deficits were rising.

He, however, blamed former Finance Minister P Chidambaram for committing, what he called the “original sin”, the results of which were being faced by Pranab Mukherjee.
