Worker killed in wall collapse

A construction worker was killed and three were injured when the compound wall of a school came fell on a makeshift shed at Akshaynagar in Hulimavu on Monday night.

The dead, Nathu (24), a native of Orissa, was a plumber at an apartment under construction in Hulimavu. He was staying with three others in a makeshift shed constructed adjacent to the compound wall. The wall had become weak due to heavy rain and collapsed when the four were sleeping.

Nathu was seriously injured on his head and chest, while three others escaped with minor injuries.He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead, the police said.

In another incident, five persons, including two children, sustained injuries after the wall of a house collapsed in Girinagar on Monday night.

According to police, Mallikamma has rented out the first floor of her house to Rajashetty, while she occupied the ground floor. 

Rajashetty had requested Mallikamma to repair the walls of the house which had developed cracks. However, no repairs were carried out. A portion of the wall collapsed injuring Rajashetty, his wife, two children and Mallikamma. All the injured were treated at a nearby hospital as outpatients, the police said.

Woman hit by train, dies

A 29-year-old woman died after she was hit by a speeding train while trying to cross the railway line near Jnanabharathi Railway Station Monday morning.

The victim, Sushma, is the wife of Chandrashekar, a resident of Hosakerehalli. A few days ago, Sushma’s parents had taken her son Likhith to their house at Kudur in Magadi taluk. On Monday, she told her husband that she would get Likhith back home. She left home at 8 am. However, instead of going to Majestic bus stand to take a bus, she went towards the railway station. The police are yet to ascertain why Sushma went to the railway station.

Two held for betting

The CCB sleuths have arrested two persons on the charge of betting and seized Rs 4.10 lakh, a television set and two cellphones. Kiran (31) and Manju (30) are the arrested.
On a tip-off, the police raided a house in Mahalakshmi Layout and arrested the duo. They were allegedly indulging in betting when a T20 match of IPL was being played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium between Royal Challengers and Mumbai Indians.

A case was registered with the Mahalakshmi Layout Police station.
In another incident, the sleuths raided a residence at Balaji Nagar in Mico Layout and arrested three women on the charge of prostitution.
