Suspicious man kills wife, arrested in Bihar

Delhi Police have arrested a man in Bihar’s West Champaran district for allegedly killing his wife at Begumpur in outer Delhi over suspicion that she was having an extramarital affair.

Mohammad Mustkim Miyan, 32, was absconding ever since his wife Rihana Khatoon, 35, was found dead in their rented accommodation at Rajiv Nagar Extension in Begumpur.

Rihana’s decomposing body was found on April 27 after their neighbours approached police reporting that foul smell was emanating from the house.

“Our team broke open the main door of the house and found the woman’s body lying on a bed,” said B S Jaiswal, deputy commissioner of police (outer).

“Both her hands and legs were tied, and a dupatta was tied around her neck. A case of murder was lodged at Begumpur police station,” he added.

An initial investigation had revealed that Rihana married Mustkim in 1997 and had two children.

However, the relationship between them were not cordial from the beginning.

“They used to fight regularly over petty issues, after which Rihana used to stay at her parents house. This had also created doubt in Mustkim’s mind that Rihana was having an extramarital affair,” Jaiswal said.

Police began technical surveillance on Mustkim’s cellphone and sent a team to his native village, Pachgaon, but he was not found there.

“Our team kept on raiding his possible hideouts in West Champaran district and arrested him on Monday. On sustained interrogation, he confessed that he killed Rihana due to his doubts on her character,” Jaiswal added.

Mustkim told police that on April 25, he strangulated Rihana to death after tying her hands and legs on the pretext of making love.
