World Athletics Day meet to be held on May 16

The athletic events will be staged in Jayanagar and the boys’ (3 km) and girls’ (1.5 km) road run will be held at the SAI, South Centre. The unique event organised by the International Association of Athletics Federation is staged in 160 countries on the same day. This is the third time Bangalore play host to the prestigious event since its inception and the Karnataka Athletic Association promises to continue with the trend of bringing in youngsters to the world of athletics.

“The aim of this event is to promote health and athletics in our country. Especially amongst the younger lot of this nation. We see a lot of potential and we know with events as such we can make a difference,” said KAA secretary Satyanarayana.
Youth Common Wealth Games gold medalists Nirupama Sunder and Rebecca Jose will be the ones to look out for among the 1200 competitors.

The event is being held for boys and girls aged between nine and 17.6.

The winners will receive a merit certificate from the IAAF and all the participants will get participation certificates. 18 lucky draw winners will be given an all-paid trip to watch the 12th World Athletic Championship to be held in Berlin from August 15 to 23.

U-13: 80M, 400M, 1000M, Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put.

U-15: 100M, 200M, 400M, 1500M, Long Jump, High Jump, Discuss Throw, Shot Put.
U-17: 100M, 200M, 400M, Long jump, High Jump, Discuss Throw, Shot Put.
