A decision to create single window for clearance of applications seeking alienation has been taken at Hassan Urban Development Authority (HUDA) meeting held here on Monday.

Addressing the meeting, HUDA chairperson Navile Annappa said illegal sites were sprouting up around legally approved ones, with huge scarcity for plots surfacing in the recent days.

“This was owing to no fresh applications of land alienation being considered or executed. Hence, unscrupulous elements were encashing on people’s weakness to own plots,” he added.

The meeting was also attended by landlords and landowners, who were awaiting alienation of their lands which could be converted into plots.
Questioning the chairperson, landlords said with HUDA not entertaining either fresh or pending applications seeking alienation, it was difficult for them to take up construction activities on their own lands.

MLA H S Prakash, who also addressed the meeting, said a single window for clearance of applications will make matters easier without giving way to irregularities.

This suggestion was welcome by authorities present at the meeting, who seconded it and approved immediately.

Stating that this decision would be brought to the notice of deputy commissioner, Navile Annappa said the issue of loss incurred by processing such applications and illegal buildings that are coming up in areas surrounding the city, would be brought to the notice of DC.

In order to clear the doubts, farmers were also informed that neither the MLAs, nor the district in-charge minister had ordered against processing applications seeking alienation.
About 120 such applications are pending at the office, and a meeting of deputy commissioner and revenue officials will be convened to discuss on approving them on June 8, Annappa said.
