A man has been arrested for allegedly killing his wife over suspicion that she was having an extramarital affair, police said on Wednesday.

Jaleshwar Majhi, 35, who hails from Bihar’s Chhapra district, was absconding ever since his wife Reeta was found dead at their rented accommodation in Pochanpur on May 30.
Reeta’s decomposed body was discovered by her landlord Brahm Prakash Yadav when he came to fetch the monthly rent.

“When he reached Jaleshwar’s room, the main door was found bolted from outside and foul smell was emanating from inside. Finding the matter suspicious, he opened the door and found Reeta lying in a pool of blood,” said Anil Kumar Ojha, additional commissioner of police (south-west).

He immediately informed police after which a case of murder was registered at Dwarka Sector 23 police station.

During preliminary enquiry, Jaleshwar was found absconding with his seven-month-old baby due to which the needle of suspicion pointed towards him.

An intensive search was made at his workplace and in Dwarka, but no worthwhile information was found.

During further investigation, it was learnt that Jaleshwar was a native of Chhapra district and his two brothers are living in Himachal Pardesh’s Solan district.

“Two different teams were immediately dispatched to Chhapra and Solan. When our team reached Solan, it was found that Jaleshwar left the place on May 31 after leaving his daughter with his brother Muneshwar,” Ojha added.

Cops also reached Chhapra, but Jaleshwar narrowly escaped the dragnet. “Finally after a tip-off, he was nabbed in a marble market near Dwarka sector 20, where he had come to collect his salary from a contractor,” Ojha said.

Jaleshawar disclosed that he had married Reeta in 1997. However, owing to strained relations, he started living separately about five years ago.

In 2010, they started living together again and were blessed with a baby girl last year.
Jaleshwar brought Reeta to Delhi last month and started living at rented accommodation in Pochanpur.

Soon, he noticed that his wife developed physical relations with their neighbour. police said.

“The accused claims that he warned Reeta, but she did not mend her ways. Fed up with her behaviour, he decided to kill her,” Ojha added.
