Two goals in quick succession earned Controllerate of Inspection Electronics (CIL) a hard-fought 2-1 win over promoted side Students Union in the BDFA Super Division football league at the Bangalore Football stadium here on Saturday.

Samanth put Students Union ahead as early as in the second minute but strikes from Pradeep (12th minute) and Manoj Kumar (21st) fetched CIL their first win in their second match this season.

Coming on the back of a stunning 1-0 win against HASC, Students started off in a promising fashion with Samanth, who was the architect of the victory against Aircraftmen on Tuesday, putting his team infront with a neat finish. Samanth latched onto a through pass from Jai before dashing through the centre to slot home past CIL goalkeeper N Venkatesh.

Stunned by the reverse, CIL regrouped quickly and a flurry of attacking moves followed but a goal didn’t materialise for the Ramkumar-coached side. CIL found the equaliser when a cross on the left by Pradeep curled towards the goal before going over the head of Students custodian Thomas, who was out-of-position.

With both teams going for the winner the match turned into an exciting affair. And CIL’s Manoj made the most of a clear cut opportunity to give his team the winning margin when the striker placed a left wing pass from Abhishek past Thomas.

CIL took control of the proceedings in the second half but failed to swell the lead. Sanoj was the culprit on two occasions when the CIL forward twice hit wide from close range.Result: ‘A’ Division: ISRO: 2 (Thyagaraj 7th, Sujith 53rd) bt Southern Blues: 1 (Jagdish 24th).
