Two 5-point quakes occur off Kamchatka and N Kuriles coasts

Two earthquakes with a magnitude of 5.1 occurred off the coasts of Kamchatka and the North Kuriles in the Pacific Ocean.

There was no report of any casualty or damage, and the tsunami warning was not issued.The first jolt was registered at 00:02 Kamchatka time yesterday, Itar-Tass reported quoting Kamchatka branch of the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.sIts epicenter was situated 200 kilometres to the south-east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at a depth of 48.3 kilometres under the sea bottom.

Over two hours later (at 02.23 Kamchatka time), an earthquake occurred in the region of the North Kuriles.

Its epicenter was situated 220 kilometres to the south-east of the city of Severo-Kurilsk at a depth of 28.6 kilometers under the sea bottom.
