Sehwag to lead Rest of India

Sehwag, who missed the just-concluded tri-series in Sri Lanka due to the injury he sustained during the Indian Premier League which forced him to skip the World T20 in England and undergo surgery there in June, will have S Badrinath as his deputy.

The selectors also announced the teams for the October 8-11 Challenger Series, featuring India Red, India Green and India Blue, also to be held in Nagpur. The selection panel also announced that opener Gautam Gambhir’s fitness for the Champions Trophy, starting on September 22, would be assessed on Thursday.

The teams:  Rest of India: Virender Sehwag (capt), Wriddhiman Saha, M Vijay, S Sreesanth, S Badrinath (vice-capt), Munaf Patel, Virat Kohli, Pragyan Ojha, Manoj Tiwari, Kedar Jadhav, Ravindra Jadeja, Abhinav Mukund, Irfan Pathan, Uday Kaul, Sudeep Tyagi.

Challenger Series: India Blue: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt), Yusuf Pathan, Sachin Tendulkar, Naman Ojha, Wasim Jaffer, Harbhajan Singh, Jalaj Saxena, Siddharth Trivedi, Suresh Kumar, S Sreesanth, Kedar Jadhav, Ashok Dinda, Abhishek Nayar, AS Goswami.

India Red: Yuvraj Singh (capt), Wriddhiman Saha, M Vijay, R Ashwin, Sunny Sohail, Sudeep Tyagi, Shikhar Dhawan, Munaf Patel, Ishant Jaggi, Saurabh Tiwari, Ravindra Jadeja, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvanesh Kumar, Harshad Khadiwale.
