Three youths have been arrested for allegedly stabbing a teenager when he and his cousin resisted a robbery bid at south Delhi’s Saket last week, police said on Wednesday.

Ved Prakash, Alok and Kalu had waylaid Brijesh, 19, and Rahul, 18, of Sangam Vihar near NBCC Plaza in Pushp Vihar on the intervening night of June 6 and 7.

“Brijesh and Rahul were returning home from work from a food joint at Khirki village. Their bicycle was intercepted by the accused who had come on two motorcycles,” said Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south).

“Rahul was dragged to a distance and beaten up. When Brijesh tried to save him, the accused stabbed him with a knife and snatched his cellphone,”  she added.

Information was collected about criminals involved in similar activities and operating in south Delhi and a specific information was received regarding presence of a criminal in Sangam Vihar.

“We immediately conducted a raid and apprehended Ved Prakash on Tuesday. On his disclosure, other accused were also arrested in their hideouts. A man named Pawan is absconding and efforts are being made to arrest him,” Sharma added.

Two motorcycles used in the crime and the robbed cellphone have been recovered from their possession.

Ved, Alok and Kalu used to commit robberies and snatch valuables at Pushp Vihar, Mehrauli-Badarpur Road and Sangam Vihar in the wee hours to meet expenses on girlfriends, liquor and parties. A case of attempt to murder has been lodged at Saket police station.
