The Gangothri Glades Stadium would soon have a world-class pavilion, which is being constructed at a cost of Rs 80 lakh. Construction on the pavilion is on full swing at the stadium, which has hosted a number of Ranji matches.

The new pavilion would include separate rooms for two teams playing matches at the stadium located in Manasagangothri. Also, separate rooms for umpires and match referees are also being constructed. A dining hall would also be included in the pavilion.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) convenor Vijayprakash said: “Apart from the new pavilion, arrangements have also been made adjacent to the stadium for providing practise nets.”

With the Royal Challengers-KSCA Academy training budding cricketers at Gangothri Glades, the stadium would have nine practise nets — including eight turf wickets and one concrete wicket.

The academy has 30 players each in the Under-16 and Under-19 categories, who have been selected by a team comprising KSCA secretary Javagal Srinath, former cricketer Roger Binny, Vijay Bharadwaj, KSCA Mysore zone chairman Ashwini Ranjan and convenor Vijayprakash.

Earlier, during his visit to the city, Srinath had stated that the academy would be similar to a school, as budding cricketers can improve their technique at the academy.

He also clarified that while it would provide better facilities to cricketers, selection to the state team would be based on performance.  Even though the academy trains budding players, he had said that youth playing for different clubs would have equal opportunities.

With the academy being started in the city, players now won’t have to head to Bangalore for gaining tips on improving their game. Instead, with practise nets and coaches being available at the academy, players can now improve on their game in the city itself.
