Yakshagana fare for lovers of this folk form

Karavali Yakshagana Kendra will celebrate its fourth anniversary on June 24 at Vivekananda Auditorium of SBRR Mahajana College, Jayalakshmipuram. The events will begin to unfold from 2 pm on Sunday.

Addressing a press meet here on Thursday, honorary secretary of the Kendra Dhananjay said three yakshaganas would be performed on the day and few donors who have been fostering the art and the centre would be felicitated.

‘Shabara Shankara Vilasa’ in Badaguthittu form would be performed at 2 pm by nine artistes while ‘Girija Kalyana’ will be staged at 5.30 pm by 13 artistes. Further, ‘Hanumadwilasa’ at 7 pm by 13 artistes is in Thenkuthittu form. He said that many young talents would be performing in the yakshaganas. “Children from six years of age to 13 years would have their parts to be played in all the three performances. Entry would be free.”

Dhananjay said felicitation to donors who helped the programme take shape is at 4.30 pm. Chandrashekare Gowda, R Vasudeva Murthy, P R Naga Srinivas, M Jagannath Shenoy, K V Prabhakara, Madhusudhan Padaki, T Krishna Poojari, Srinivas V Rao, Vasudeva Shabaraya and Krupa Phadke would be felicitated on the ocassion.

He said that Badaguthittu and Thenkuthittu classes are organised by the centre at Ramakrishana nagar on every Tuesday. Interested may contact 9945855528 or 9611075040.
