Till a day before Delhi University’s deadline for applying by the first cut-off list in Kirori Mal College, admissions for students from other states were on hold since they had not been given their mark sheets yet.

DU officials have now sent a written order for provisional
admissions of such students to the KMC principal.

“We got a clear order from the dean of students’ welfare. Provisional admissions will start on Thursday with an undertaking of 15 days,” said Bhim Sen Singh, KMC principal.

Students applying in DU from Haryana, Manipur and Madhya Pradesh boards were finding it difficult to seek admissions as their mark sheets have still not been given to them.

While other DU colleges started taking provisional admissions after taking an undertaking, Singh sought a clear response regarding provisional admissions on the basis of their mark sheets put up on the website.

Unclear directions

“I know how much trouble the students are going through because of no clear directions from the officials. With so many fake mark sheet cases coming out in DU, I just wanted to clarify whether they can be admitted provisionally on the basis of website marks without original mark sheets,” said Singh.

After concerns raised by parents and students with some even protesting outside KMC college, another reminder was sent to the DSW office to give a reply before Thursday.

On June 25, the deputy registrar had issued a notification on this matter.

“For boards, results of which are not available with the office of DSW so far, their results may be verified by the colleges from the respective boards after granting provisional admissions to the candidates,” Ram Dutt, deputy registrar (academic) had stated.

While other colleges started taking provisional admissions after this notification, KMC held it for the need of clear directions.

“I don’t understand this circular and would like DU to be specific on provisional admissions,” said Singh earlier in the day.

Other colleges

Ramjas College also put on hold admissions for students without mark sheets till Wednesday.

“After the fake mark sheets scam in Ramjas College, the principal is also being careful about admissions,” said an official of Ramjas.

Worried parents running from one office to another in an attempt to get their wards admitted said the registrar’s notification clearly mentioned that admissions can take place.

Risky business

“Miranda House started provisional admissions, but the KMC principal told us that he cannot take any risk as out of the 60 odd colleges, it was Singh who was given a suspension order previously,” said Sant Singh, a parent from Hisar, Haryana.

Several students from these educational boards, after waiting for hours outside the DSW office, went violent.

“We have been waiting all day long. The security guard told us that we can meet the DSW after lunch, “ said Ravi an aspirant.

Even after that, there was no response, so some students jumped the gates and broke the glass of the entry door. We were later called by the DSW,”  he added.
