DK, Udupi get ` 5 cr for footbridge project

A sum of Rs five crore has been released by the State Government towards the development of footbridges in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts and Coastal Developmnent Authority (CDA) has recoginsed 142 footbridges in five taluks within eight legislative constituencies in Dakshina Kannada and 45 footbridges within 6 legislative constituencies of Udupi, said CDA Chairperson B Nagaraj Shetty.

Speaking to media persons here on Thursday, he said that an integrated project plan with a proposal of Rs 15 crore, (Rs 5 crore each for Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts) was submitted to the State government in 2010-11 and the Government was urged by the authority to issue the grant for the development of footbridges in state budget.

Accordingly, former minister late Dr V S Acharya and the present Chief Minister D V Sadanada Gowda had ordered  Finance department to sanction the amount.

For the time bieng, the first instalment of Rs three crore and Rs two crore is released for Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Zilla Panchayats respectively. The Government and the respective ZPs have been handed over the work towards implementation,” Shetty said.

In connection with the correspondence done by the Authority with the Governemnt to release the remaining Rs 10 crore, the CM has insisted the Finance department to relase the amount.
