Going to a new restaurant and trying out a different cuisine has become passe; advising your friends and relatives about a new joint that has opened around the corner through word of mouth is no more in fashion.

Instead, food blogging is the new word of mouth and is spreading like wildfire across the country.

Whether it is about a new dish or a new restaurant, the bloggers know it all. Various food blogs help youngsters in picking and choosing the restaurant of their choice and the dish that is a must-have at that particular joint.

“Bloggers have never failed me, when I want to try out a new place. I generally go to blogs and check the comments that food bloggers have put down. I decide where to eat accordingly,” says Roni, an IT professional.

He adds that blogs are helpful in more ways than one as they not only help one in deciding the best restaurant, but also help in knowing the price and service of the place.
Tiyasha, a student, is an avid blogger and feels that it is fun and helpful for others.

“I blog very often and post my comments on food blogging websites. Along with the food, I also blog about the ambience of the restaurant and whether it is safe to dine there late in the night,” she says.

Many blogs also describe the menu, the pictures of the restaurant and the most popular dishes available at a particular joint. Bloggers critique all the aspects of the restaurant and often list out the dos and the don’ts of eating there.

“I often read a lot of these blogs before trying out a new place to eat. Bloggers give genuine criticism and my experience has been good till now.

However, I feel that not much is written about the bigger hotels. So when I want to know something about an expensive hotel, I don’t get much information,” explains Abhishek, a student.

He adds that despite the fact that people like to choose residential hotels based on the experiences of someone who has tried it before, there aren’t many bloggers who touch upon this subject.

“I do not find enough blogs about resorts and guest houses. I feel that more people should blog in this domain as there are many who want to know more,” adds Abhishek. Well, blogging is clearly a way to reach out to the masses.
