Unable to withstand the agony of rejection by his lover, a youth allegedly killed himself virtually before her in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly town, about 250 km from here.
The youth, an engineering student at a college in Rajasthan, sent a message to his lover on a social networking site informing her about his decision to kill himself and also asked her to switch on her webcam.
He then switched on his own webcam and hanged himself by the ceiling of his room as his horrified lover watched the whole traumatising episode.
The appalling incident occurred on Wednesday, according to the police. Police said the youth identified as Adesh Sharma, was a student of BTech at Bharatpur in Rajasthan and was having an affair with a girl of Bareilly for the past few years.
The 19-year old Adesh had come home a few days back as his college had been closed for summer vacations.
Sources said that Adesh had been upset after he found that he had not been getting the desired attention from his lover. Adesh’s father Chandrashekhar Sharma, a doctor, said that his son was very upset after he had spotted his lover roaming with some other youth at a mall in the city on Tuesday afternoon.
“My son had gone to the mall with his friends on Tuesday... he found that the girl was roaming there with another boy,” Sharma said. He also alleged that Adesh was threatened by the girl’s new friend after he tried to speak to her. After returning home, Adesh locked himself in his room and did not speak to anyone. “He appeared very upset,” the family members said.
A disheartened Adesh on Wednesday allegedly hanged himself. His mother had gone to market while his father was in his office. When his mother Ramkumari returned home, she found Adesh hanging by the ceiling. He was brought down and taken to a nearby hospital but was declared brought dead. The distraught father said that he would meet the senior police officers and demand action against the girl and her friend. The police is investigating the matter.
