'Killer' of Laila Khan brought to Mumbai

The con-man Parvez Tak who is believed to know the secret behind the disappearance of Pakistani-origin Bollywood starlet Laila Khan, her mother and four other family members, was taken in police custody after being produced before court here on Monday. He has been remanded till July 19.

A team of police had last month left for Srinagar seeking Tak's custody after he reportedly confessed to Jammu and Kashmir Police during interrogation that he had killed Laila and her family members near Igatpuri in north Maharashtra.

On the basis of the statement made to the J&K police, the Mumbai police which had last year on a missing complaint filed by Laila's father Nadir Patel, changed it into an abduction case. The crime branch in its remand paper informed the court that it wants to ferret out the whereabouts of Laila and her family members and confirm whether murders have actually taken place as claimed by Tak.

According to highly-placed sources, even after Tak's purported confession of having knowledge about the mysterious murders of Laila and her family members, Patel has been insistent that the con-man “was lying.” Late Monday evening police at the behest of Tak have detained four persons for interrogation.

As per Patel's complaint Laila and her family members disappeared in February 2011 from Oshiwara suburb of Mumbai.
