MEXICAN FESTIVAL
Last Updated 15 May 2009, 14:24 IST

It was a tipsy turvy night at the Hard Rock Cafe last weekend as a brand of tequila was relaunched amidst a lot of action and frenzy. And as usual, there were many takers. While many walked in to the venue in groups to check out the event, there were many, who were enjoying a normal evening savouring the dinner, which included huge burgers, pastas and beverages of course. The crowd seemed to enjoy the sampling of tequila and was totally involved in doing the same.
The tequila festival was in celebration of Cinco De Mayo, a Mexican festival, which commemorates the Mexican army’s unlikely defeat of French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. The festival is a symbol of Mexican pride and unity, and therefore provided an opportunity to the Bangaloreans to indulge in all their favourite Mexican treats. Amidst the margaritas and fajitas, there were plenty of tequila shots too as there was a prize for the one, who downed the shots in the craziest way possible. There were interesting combinations of food with tequila, as well like tequila-soaked watermelons and tequila-soaked chuskis.
Even as everyone indulged in some mouth-watering food with beverages, the IPL match on the big screen caught most people’s attention. And any night at the Hard Rock Cafe is incomplete without the fabulous music, which is enjoyed by the rock heads of the City. So even on this night, classic rock songs of legends like Bon Jovi and Metallica filled the air as people headbanged and mouthed the words while some relaxed and were heard discussing about their favourite musicians. The most happening part of the night was the auction of a margarita glass with a capacity of 2.5 litres, which was purchased by a native of Texas for Rs 2,500. However like Mumbai, the Coyote dance couldn’t be held in the City due to a ban on live dancing.
