The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday directed the Bruhat Bangalore Mahangara Palike to submit a list of the original allottees of the EWS quarters.

During the hearing of a petition by a few allottees alleging delay on the part of the Palike in completing the construction, the Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen and Justice Aravind Kumar sought to know from BBMP, the reason for increasing the number of flats. The Bench also sought information on the plans to allot some quarters to Palike employees.

Nanjunda Reddy, the counsel for the Palike denied such plan and submitted that all the 1,512 flats will be allotted to people displaced by the project. He said the Palike was prepared to give any assurance to the Court.

Refusing to buy the argument, the Bench said:  “It is just an assurance. We know how you (BBMP) are. What does BBMP think that these people are animals?”

The Bench said its concern was that the allottees, already cheated were not cheated once again. It said the Court wants someone else to monitor the project but not the Palike.

“Since 2004 these people are waiting for their houses. Still nobody is shamed,” the Bench said on learning that the displaced families were waiting for the shelters since 2004. It then directed the Palike to file an affidavit on the project.
