Agitated with the production of 'Karbala', a movie based on sacrifice by 72 Muslims to protect Islam, members of All India Shia Personal Law Board today burned effigies of the film's director and writer.

AISPLB spokesman and Haidari Task Force convenor Maulana Yasoob Abbas said members of the Board burned effigies of writer Kader Khan and director Kalim Sheikh in front of Vidhan Bhawan as a mark of protest.

Earlier, the Board had written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and I&B Minister Ambika Soni appealing to them to stop production of the film based on Karbala keeping in view the sentiments of Muslims.

The spokesman threatened a nation-wide agitation if a ban was not imposed on the making of the film.

He has also appealed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to stop the production of the movie.
