Nalini Sriharan, convicted in the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case and serving a life term, on Monday commenced a fast in the Vellore special prison seeking an early release.
Nalini’s death sentence in the case was later commuted to life imprisonment at the intervention of Congress Chairperson Sonia Gandhi. Nalini, who has been in prison for over 15 years, had sought an early release, which was rejected by the Vellore Prison Advisory Board last year.
