Unique 2012’, the annual state-level beauticians’ competition, organised by Akhil Karnataka Beauty Parlours’ Association (AKaBA), was held recently at Chowdiah Memorial Hall.

It was a chance for beauty experts from across the State to showcase their creativity as well as talent. The competition drew a large number of participants.

Around 80 beauticians had registered themselves. The event began with a seminar by Razia Sultana, an Afghani hairstylist. She explained how different hairstyles are done.
Razia also shared some tips on how to maintain one’s hair during monsoon.
She also explained different hair-dos such as Arabic, Afghani, Japanese, ‘Maggi’ and Net juda styles. Feather, retro-buns, rock style, fine chotti and bridal styles were also showcased.

After the seminar, the beauticians’ competition began. The competition was divided into four segments — ‘Creative Make-up’, ‘Creative Hairstyle’, ‘Fashion Make-up’ and ‘Fashion Hairstyle’.

Some of them dressed up the models in leaves, while some used chopped carrots for anklets.

No particular theme was given to these beauticians. The winners were selected on the basis of their creativity and fashion sense.

Swetha, who had come to watch the competition said, “This is exciting. I learnt so many hairstyles that I can’t wait to try them. It is really a good platform for beauticians. Everybody should realise that they are the ones who groom us.”
